A good case study is not a trophy. It is a story a prospect tells themselves about what working with you would feel like. Most of the case studies I review as an editor fail at exactly that job: they open with the client's logo, bury the result in paragraph four, and end with a quote nobody would say out loud.

## 1\. Lead with the result, not the client

Your reader decides in the first two lines whether this story is about someone like them. Put the headline number up front: "Cut onboarding time from 14 days to 3" beats "Acme Corp partnered with us" every time.

## 2\. Name the problem in the client's words

Quote the client describing the pain before you describe your fix. The language should sound like a Slack message, not a press release. If you only have polished quotes, ask one more question: "What did Monday mornings look like before this?"

## 3\. Show the work in three beats

- The constraint you inherited (budget, timeline, legacy system)

- The decision you made that a competitor would not have

- The moment it almost went wrong, and what you did about it

## 4\. Make the numbers honest

One real number with its baseline is worth five vague percentages. Always state the time window and the baseline. If a result cannot be measured, say so and describe what changed qualitatively instead.

> A case study that admits one limitation earns the right to be believed about everything else.

## 5\. End with the next conversation, not a sales pitch

Close with the question a reader in the same situation should ask themselves, then offer one low-friction next step.
