Here's what to know once you've accepted an offer. In Illinois, you'll move through attorney review, the buyer's inspection, loan underwriting if they're financing, an appraisal, and then closing. The whole process usually takes 30 to 45 days.

Here's the general order things happen in:

Attorney review comes first, about five business days, where either side's attorney can request changes or, less often, walk away from the deal. Inspection usually follows within 7 to 10 days, and any repair requests or credits get negotiated during this window. If the buyer's financing, an appraisal confirms the home supports the loan amount, usually a couple weeks in. Underwriting is often the longest stretch, and the one you'll have the least visibility into, since it's between the buyer and their lender. A final walkthrough happens 24 to 48 hours before closing, just to confirm nothing's changed. And then closing itself, where documents get signed, funds move, and keys change hands.

You can help keep this timeline on track by responding quickly to repair requests, keeping the home ready for the appraiser, and staying reachable for anything the closing attorney or title company needs from you.
