Yes. MiraBay is gated, and it's also where I live. Its vibe is Key West social, with a full-time activities coordinator, golf carts, a lagoon pool, and free kayaks and paddleboards for residents. Canal homes reach Tampa Bay with no bridges. Lagoon-side homes go through the community boat lift, about a 10-minute trip, and in exchange you have no neighbors in a canal behind your house. The CDD applies to every lot and pays for the resort-style amenities, and in MiraBay it helps cover the seawall too.
