    Does Apollo Beach get hurricanes?

    SShawna Calvert
    November 3, 2026

Storms do affect us, but there has been no recorded direct hurricane hit on Apollo Beach in 100 years of records. In 2024, Helene brought the water and Milton brought the wind. Lower-lying waterfront homes in older parts of Apollo Beach, Ruskin and Little Harbor took on water, and homes built up higher mostly did not. That's why I start every waterfront conversation with elevation and flood insurance. One tip most people learn too late: you can't buy flood insurance once a named storm is coming, so set it up at closing.

Shawna Calvert leads The Calvert Home Team at 27North Realty on a simple belief: give more than you take, and everything else follows. She closes 100+ transactions a year across Tampa Bay, more than half waterfront, and ranked #1 in Apollo Beach by sales volume — Stellar MLS, Jan 2025 to Aug 2026. MiraBay, Symphony Isles, Bimini Bay, Andalucía, Waterset, you name it — she knows the neighborhoods in Apollo Beach, Ruskin, Riverview and Sun City Center. On the water she starts where buyers get surprised: elevation and flood insurance, then the depth of the canal at low tide, bridge clearance, and what a lift is rated to hold. Before real estate, two decades running institutional pharmacy operations. She lives in MiraBay.
